Students will deepen their understanding of the impact of residential schools in Canada in this inquiry-style learning experience focused on truth and reconciliation. As they work through the information and activities, students have several opportunities to sensitively reflect on Indigenous Worldviews of Education, children’s experiences at residential schools, and what we can do to honour Residential School Survivors, families, and communities. This learning experience may be used anytime throughout the school year, as well as on September 30, Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This unit was designed to be primarily teacher- or caregiver-led with some independent work completed by the student.
